For Ceramic Braces, Hemet Sees Us!

The first question you may have probably has to do with selection. The most common kind is metal because of their strength. Some adults select ceramic braces. Hemet orthodontist Tal Jergensen recommends them for individuals fearful of having metal in their mouth and for cosmetic reasons. They do not do as well, though, as metal braces in difficult cases.

Ceramic braces are glued to the front of the teeth and a wire is secured to them by use of tiny elastic bands. Every 4 to 6 weeks the wire is tightened until the teeth fall into proper alignment. They are barely seen when standing from about 3 feet away.

Orthodontia work is often covered, at least in part, by most dental plans; although there may be limitations on optional devices such as these.

However, there may be a few disadvantages to these kinds of braces:

  • Not as strong as metal
  • Larger than metal; although not highly obvious
  • They are slightly more expensive
  • The clear elastic stains; picking up coffee and smoke stains to name a few
  • Treatment time is longer than that with metal

All braces can be uncomfortable at times. It will probably hurt when the wires are adjusted. The first few days after receiving dental appliances, your lips may get irritated from the braces rubbing against them. The story is the same no matter what your choice of appliance. Whether metal or ceramic braces, Hemet orthodontist Dr. Jergensen will guide you through the process and make your experience well worth seeing a great smile.
